Hockey · Centre Back
CURVA Coach understands exactly what Centre Back demands physically. Your programme is built around those demands — not a generic template.
Get my CoachThe four physical qualities that define performance at this position — and why they matter.
Centre backs lead the defensive structure and regularly compete aerially. Upper body strength, core stability and the physical presence to win contested possession in the defensive circle are built into the programme.
Reading the play and moving into position before the ball arrives requires good movement speed over short distances. The programme develops acceleration and deceleration ability alongside the positional awareness that centre backs build through their training.
Making correct positional decisions under physical fatigue requires a high aerobic base. The programme builds the fitness to stay sharp defensively in the later stages of a match when games are often won and lost.
Centre backs are expected to organise and communicate the entire defensive unit across 60 minutes. The physical and mental endurance to do this consistently — from the first minute to the last — is developed through the conditioning work in the programme.
A Centre Back doesn't need the same programme as a Midfielder. CURVA Coach builds around the specific demands of your position — then layers in your schedule, your body and any niggles you're carrying.
Every two weeks, your coach reviews your progress and updates your programme. It adapts across pre-season, in-season and recovery so you're always doing the right work at the right time.
And if you have questions — about movement, nutrition, an injury niggle — your coach is available 24/7 in the app.
